Without hearing too much of the story behind the name, or any of the imagery in my mind, I’d like to know what you all think of when you hear / see the name Mad Haven Brewing Company.
Leave me a comment with anything that pops in your mind. Movies, songs, books, art, colors, some story from your past, or some random dream involving a cloud, I want it all.
Well, you asked for it… I see the front of a keg with a little window like they had on the doors to Prohibition speakeasies, and eyes peering through the window that obviously belong to someone deranged.
But then, we’re all mad here… hey, actually, speaking of, you could do some sort of Alice in Wonderland reference.
K, that’s all I got.
The name of the brewery doesn’t do it for me. Sounds like a bad brewery from the south circa 1999, that turns out crappy beer. I see a guy with a coonskin hat. Sorry.
The south had microbrews in 1999?
I see a mad scientist (crazy hair, funky clothes) in a dungy lab brewing beer.
I love the alice in wonderland thing….
I get a little Alice out of it. For some reason I’m seeing imagery out of an old fairy tail book. A little pub/cottage at the edge of the woods. A place to go – kinda outta the way, but not too far off?
This is what i’m seeing, too. A tiny little place out in the woods where the nervous people go to live and feel safe.
I prefer Benson & Rixon brewery
I like it too. that would certainly get some help from Gramps. and it would secure Rix and UG as customers for life.
Pirates.
still makes this girl think of some crazy alice and wonderland images as well!
It makes me think of New Holland brewery – probably because of their Mad Hatter IPA. What I want to think of is a pissed off tax shelter (safe haven), but it’s not natural.
i’m seeing a dingy cave…a spry old wizard peeking out into the forest for the first time in years…a flock of cardinals nesting in the trees. the wizard leans his tired, hunched-over mass on his cane and steps bravely into the wilderness. the end of the forest is within sight…he steps out into the world, where industry has devoured the tranquility and simplicity of the olden days.
he steps out into a mass of black-and-white business people, all moving quickly towards some unnamed goal…his blue cape: the only color in a world where the lines between good and evil have blurred into a disinterested gray.
I love it, PJ! I think that the art you choose for the logos will be the key. I think something playful with each beer name will make your beer memorable- humor is always the key to successful advertising!
Looking forward to your next post,
E
I’m seeing a boarded up old cabin in the middle of the woods. An old man with a long, dirty white beard is hunched over a cooking pot.
Mad Haven…woodsy tucked-away place on the last good road trip south along the coast (the Mad River’s there, yes? no? It should have been, that summer, at least). Wooden deck overlooking the river. Quiet. Blissful Quiet. Beer and bread and cheese in the summer. Hand-hewn wood. Trees, pear and apple, leaning over the deck; fresh Gravensteins to go with the cheese.
Don’t know why, but the first thing I think of is the introductory sequence to Robot Chicken on Adult Swim.
Pirates. Done.
Just kidding. These are awesome though!! Keep them coming!
I picture an old tavern like from Lord of the Rings. A Haven to get away from the world and enjoy some good beer and good stories. And of course some roudy behavior and bar fights break out (the Mad part).
Second
I like it , A Haven ( for good beer ) from A MAD MAD MAD World – if you ever saw the movie…. Great job PJ
B.
Mad Haven Brewing Company is a place to get away from the Madness! Its a place to get away from the rat race and be amonst others seeking the same. Its a cut scene like going from a noisy traffic scene after a bad day at work to a place like Cheers where you can smile and play darts, put pictures on the wall of your camping trips and carve your name and your friends name in the bar!
I don’t pretend to know much about marketing, but I think YOU should be the one telling people what Mad Haven stands for. Don’t make them guess. Don’t make them imagine it for themselves.
I definitely agree, and plan to. Part of the name is that it’s slightly ambiguous. It has multiple meanings. And this whole project has been sort of a community evolution of an idea. So I’m curious, before everyone has our branding influencing their thoughts, what people think the name means.
Kinda makes me think of a court jester juggling huge mugs of beer in a forest castle, surrounded by lots of raucous people drinking beer. It’s kinda dark and woodsy, maybe a little odd, but in a good way. That’s the first thing that popped into my head without reading anyone else’s comments.
Anyway, it’s a cool name, I like it! Brand names are always better when they’re a bit ambiguous, but there’s enough to it that it projects interesting images into people’s minds.
I see gypsies loitering around an old mountain farm barn with a boil kettle and old wooden fermentation vessels. A makeshift bar is setup with a tapped cask of last fall’s brew with a variety of folk huddled around with their beer mugs..
